The Small Business Support Service (SBSS) provides mentoring/training to new businesses that are in receipt of the Back to Work Enterprise Allowance (BTWEA) or the Short Term Enterprise Allowance (STEA).  The supports offered include assistance and advice on financial, HR, marketing and general business practices such as:

 

  • • Setting up and demonstrating book-keeping systems.
    • Spreadsheet training.
    • Integrated accounts packages training.
    • Payroll administration training.
    • Explanation of Sales & Purchases.
    • Processing Sales & Purchases invoices-highlighting the relevant information that should be included on all sales invoices to customers.
    • Credit control and how to keep bad debts to a minimum.
    • Advice and explanation of allowable deductible business expenses.
    • Advice on cash flow management and cost reduction.
    • Explanation of business banking, cheque book journal, direct debits, credit and debit cards etc.
    • Advice and training on the administration of VAT-Turnover threshold for registration, relevant return dates to Revenue.
    • Provision of information on pensions.
    • Assistance with compiling information for income tax returns for clients’ accountant.
    • Advice on income tax calculation, PRSI/Levies, personal tax credits and the relevant income tax return date to Revenue to ensure compliance and avoid penalties/interest for late submission.
    • Assist clients to source a book-keeper/accountant.
    • Explanation of employer obligation to their employees, employment law, contracts of employment, safety statements etc.
    • Explaining the various types of self-employment legal structures-Sole trader, Partnership, Ltd company; advise on the most suitable structure for the clients business and the associated obligations/responsibilities to Revenue/Companies Registration Office (CRO)etc.
    • Explanation and advice on registration as a Principle Contractor and C2 application, engaging with sub-contractors etc.
    • Assistance with the recruitment of staff.
    • Identify any further training/mentoring required and assist the client in sourcing the relevant course/training.
    • Advice/Assistance with business wind up.
