Peace III Integration of new communities

Integration of New Communities project aims to support the integration of foreign nationals into their adopted local communities throughout the county. This will involve building the capacity of both the host communities and the foreign nationals to network and engage with each other to share cultures and experiences.

The main objectives of this project are:

  • Raise awareness of the extent, nature and value of diversity within the county and the wider region.
  • Facilitate enhanced levels of community contact & participation.
  • Raise levels of understanding, respect and tolerance.
  • Build capacity of indigenous communities to engage positively with their new neighbours.
  • Build capacity of immigrant communities to become actively involved in the development of their adopted communities.

This project will allow people from different ethnic, religious and cultural backgrounds the space to learn about each other’s cultures and beliefs in a safe and fun environment. Building capacity of foreign nationals will be achieved through initiatives such as English Language Conversation Classes while host communities will engage in Diversity Awareness training and activities to widen their knowledge of the new communities in Co Monaghan.

Some of the activities planned for 2010 include:
